Characteristic reactions of group 9 transition metal compounds in organic synthesis (p 91-107)
Iwao Omae
Published Online: Feb 16 2009 4:03AM
DOI: 10.1002/aoc.1480

Group 9 metal compounds are widely utilized two characteristic reactions in organic synthesis. The first type reactions include Pauson-Khand reactions, the Pauson-Khand-type reactions, the other cyclizations, and coupling reactions. The second type ones include hydroformylations, the carbonylations of methanol, amidocarbonylations, and other carbonylations.

Synthesis and characterizations of N,Nprime-bis(diphenylphosphino)-2-(aminomethyl)aniline derivatives: application of a palladium(II) complex as pre-catalyst in Heck and Suzuki cross-coupling reactions (p 108-113)
Murat Aydemir, Akinodotn Baysal, Gülscedilen Öztürk, Bahattin Gümgüm
Published Online: Dec 29 2008 3:53AM
DOI: 10.1002/aoc.1477

Metal complexes {Pd(II), Pt(II) and Cu(I)} and oxidation products of N,N-bis(diphenylphosphino)-2-(aminomethyl)aniline, [Ph2PNHC6H4-CH2NHPPh2] 1 have been prepared and characterized. The catalytic behaviour of the Pd(II) complex was investigated in the Suzuki coupling and Heck reactions.

Highly efficient bimetallic iron-palladium catalyzed Michael-type Friedel-Crafts reactions of indoles with chalcones (p 114-118)
Yue-Hua Gao, Lei Yang, Wei Zhou, Li-Wen Xu, Chun-Gu Xia
Published Online: Dec 29 2008 3:54AM
DOI: 10.1002/aoc.1478

Iron-palladium is a superior bimetallic catalyst in the presence of acetylacetone (Acac) with remarkable synergistic effect for the Michael-type Friedel-Crafts reactions of indoles with chalcones. This catalytic system has the advantages of mild reaction conditions, smaller amount of metal salts, high yields of the desired products and operational simplicity, which make it a useful and promising process for the synthesis of indole derivatives.

Metal and solvent-free cyanosilylation of carbonyl compounds with tris(pentafluorophenyl)borane (p 119-123)
Santosh T.adam, Sung Sooim
Published Online: Dec 19 2008 7:41AM
DOI: 10.1002/aoc.1479

A highly effective metal and solvent-free method of the cynaosilylation of aldehydes andetones with TMSCN in the presence of catalytic amount of B(C6F5)3 was developed. Various alehydes andetones were converted into the corresponding trimethylsilylether within short reaction times with excellent yield under mild conditions.

Synthesis and molecular structures of 1-chloro-1-silacyclopent-2-enes. Combination of 1,2-hydroboration, 1,1-organoboration and protodeborylation (p 124-131)
Ezzathan, Rhettempe, Bernd Wrackmeyer
Published Online: Jan 20 2009 11:18AM
DOI: 10.1002/aoc.1482

The consecutive 1,2-hydroboration and 1,1-organoboration of alkyn-1-yl(chloro)(methyl)vinyl- and alkyn-1-yl(chloro)(phenyl)vinylsilane with 9-borabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane (9-BBN) led selectively to 1-silacyclopent-2-ene derivatives containing a SiCl function. Protodeborylation with acetic acid left the SiCl functions in various 1-silacyclopent-2-enes untouched. NMR spectroscopy in solution (1H, 11B, 13C and 29Si NMR), DFT calculations and X-ray structural analysis were used for characterization of the heterocycles.
